Just me sidling onto your screen dear friend, with what is without doubt the best Salted Chocolate Thickshake I’ve ever made.

You need this in your life now!

If you’re craving something cold, creamy, and refreshing, and that second arvo coffee just isn’t hitting the mark, this icy shake is for you. It’s all the satisfaction of that corner store ice cream, without the dairy and sugar overload (and sans packaging too).

Picture this. In just a few minutes, you could be…

  • Laying back
  • Glass in hand
  • Feeling cool
  • Hydrated to the max
  • & sipping back on the creamiest dreamiest choc thick shake you’ve ever tried

Made with just 1 blender, 6 ingredients, and 5 minutes. The miso plus tahini flavour combo is out of this world good. The biggest question is – will you straw or will you spoon?

How to Make A Healthy Vegan Thickshake

Thickshakes are typically made with ice cream, dairy milk, and sugar syrup. Nothing much for us there. So instead I’ve made the following tweaks to get our thickshake up to standard:

  • Ice cream – I’ve used a combination of cashews, banana, and ice. The cashews give it an unbeatable creaminess, as do the bananas, while the ice provides that classic ice cream feel.
  • Dairy milk – cashews, tahini and water create an instant milk. Plus here’s an extra tip for you – blend your cashews to a fine flour first, before adding anything else. This will ensure you get a super creamy result rather than end up with cashew chunks.
  • Sugar syrup – we’re using banana to naturally sweeten things, and honestly it doesn’t need anything else. Be sure to use super ripe bananas for your smoothies, and you won’t need to add anything extra to create the perfect sweetness.

Benefits of Miso

I’ve added miso paste to this healthy chocolate thickshake, mainly for flavour. It gives it a delicious saltiness, but also a grounding umami layer, that you can’t achieve with a pinch of salt alone. It also imparts an ever so slightly fermented flavour, which really takes this from side-walk kiddy shake, to decadent adult delight.

Miso is a fermented food and great source of probiotics for our gut. I’ve raved about this before, but probiotics are beneficial for our gut microflora population, leading to improved digestion, immunity, and even mental health and mood.

When To Have This Salted Chocolate Thickshake

Frankly this thickshake is perfect as is. All I recommend is a glass or jar, and thick reusable straw (or spoon). The whole idea with a thickshake is it’s THICK. I recommend incorporating this bevvy into your diet as a satiating afternoon tea option, or healthy dessert. Quick. Easy. Super delicious.
