• The Foodies' Guide to Christmas Gifting

by Buffy Ellen 0 Comments

Friends, are you thinking about Xmas presents yet? Or are you more of a make your own type gal/guy? Either way, I’ve put together a wee Foodies’ Guide to Christmas Gifting for you, with eleven things I know I’d love to receive this Christmas. So, whether you’re a home DIYer, on a budget, or are feeling like going all out this year, there are plenty of ideas in here for the healthy wholefood-lovers in your life.

Think spiced chocolate truffles, gingerbread, and raw macaroons, right down to my all-time favourite blender and dehydrator (sneaked in some organic perfume in there too - not food I know, but it’s gorgeous!). Together, I hope you’ll find some inspiration in the pages below.

Last year our family decided to do a secret Santa type Xmas. Everyone got a name, then had to buy one, thoughtful, meaningful present for that person. It was so great! We still got to enjoy the anticipation, excitement, and feel-good factor of giving – sitting all together as a family. But without the sometimes-stressful exercise of pacing the stores, not knowing what might be quite right for each person. If you find Xmas a little nerve-wracking on the gift giving front, give this technique a go! And you never know, one of the ideas below might be just perfect for your secret Santa too.

Before I forget, I know you’re probably starting to think about Christmas menus right now as well (I know I’m trialing a new vegan pav!). So next week, I’ll include a round-up of my top ideas for your Xmas spread.

To the food!

Spiced Chocolate Truffles

These soft, oh so tender truffles, make great gifts and are super easy to whip up. Simply throw a blend of christmassy spices, array of delish dried fruits, and combo of almonds and brazil nuts into your food processor, and voila – easy, healthy, delicious Xmas gifts. Plus, you can make these well in advance (before the Xmas rush hits), and store them in the freezer until the big day. Make a double batch even, and keep half of these treats for yourself! Super yum.

Uncle Joe's Nut Butters

I know you’re all over peanut and almond butter (and if not – get on that here!). But have you tried walnut or hazelnut butter yet…?! Next level decadence! These gourmet little jars will add that extra oomph to your morning banana bread, smoothie bowl, fruit and granola; or take them into the pm on crackers, or drizzled on top of your favourite dessert (I love the hazelnut one drizzled over this Nutella tart here – divine). They’re the perfect size for novel healthy stocking stuffers too. Plus, they're made right here in Aotearoa, from NZ grown nuts, so when you gift these goodies you're supporting local too! Scrumptious and sustainable.

Up-level your stocking stuffers with these walnut and hazelnut butters here.

Little Bird's Goodies

Here’s another set of stocking stuffer ideas, perfect for both the sweet and savouries in your life. If your giftee is more of sweet tooth, get them a bag of these Raw Macaroons - one of my all-time favourite treats. I’m rather particular to the coffeecacao and raspberry, and strawberry and white cacao versions, but they’re all good!

However, if you’re loved one is more someone who runs to a cheese platter from a mile away, try these brand new vegetable infused Crispy Flat crackers from Little Bird. Totally different from any raw treats they've tried before, or crackers for that matter, and they’ll never know they’re made from veges! And they’re nut free too. Otherwise, try these classic Raw Nut and Seed Crackers instead – either way, they’re the perfect vessels for dipping and sharing your favourite dairy free snacks.

Gift some macaroons or raw crackers here.

Excalibur Dehydrator
The crunchiest most delicious CARAMELISED CINNAMON WALNUTS - perfect for topping your favourite salad or dessert bowl - easy, 4 ingredients, 5 minutes, healthy, plant based, low sugar, gluten free, dairy free, vegan, begoodorganics - 3

Ok, if you’re ready for a splurge (or maybe wanting to treat yourself this Xmas, for living another year of awesomeness), then this is one of my top picks! If you've been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know I rave about my Excalibur Dehydrator. Now I bought mine myself, but if I didn’t have one already, this is what I’d be dropping pressie hints about to Tony!!

If you’re an avid foodie, and are loving getting into more plant-based whole foods, a dehydrator is an incredible addition to your pantry. Once you’ve got one, you’ll be off making delicious dehydrated nut blends (like these Caramelised Cinnamon Walnuts here), homemade smoky BBQ kale chips, and endless batches of activated nuts and seeds (brilliant for any raw dessert recipe). It’s a wonderful way to not only increase the nutritional value of the ingredients you already have in the pantry (more on that here if you're curious), but also gives your nuts a deliciously crunchy feel, and removes any bitterness they might have. If you’ve been to one of my workshops you’ll know I rave about the taste up-levelling that happens to an almond once you activate and dehydrate it!

Mexican Hot Chocolate Mix

For a super quick but heartfelt christmas pressie, this deliciously spiced homemade hot chocolate mix is a winner. Simply mix up raw cacao powder and coconut sugar with just the right amount of spices, add some flakes of decadent dark chocolate, and put it in a cute recycled jar with a ribbon tied around! Again, you could even make a double mix so you can hang onto a jar for yourself.

Benriner's Sprialisers and Mandolines

Guys – we’ve been trying to get these spiralisers and mandolines in our Be Good Organics store for YEARS! So I’m SUPER excited that they’ve just arrived, literally last week. If you haven't heard of this iconic Japanese brand before, these are the real deal of spiralising – super high quality in terms of build and blades. Spiralisers are amazing for creating zoodles (zucchini noodles), as well as just for prepping vegetables to go into your fave goodness bowl (like the one above!). The mandoline is likewise amazing for salads and bowls, with different attachments so you can cut your veges into multiple different ways. When it comes to eating more plants, how they’re cut MATTERS! Truly. Both of these Benriner beauties are the highest quality around, so will be a much loved pressie that will last for years to come.

Loving Earth's Chocolate Bars

This latest range of raw, dark, dairy-free, fair trade and organic chocolates from Loving Earth are THE BOMB. If you've tried Loving Earth's standard raw choc bars, you know how creamy-smooth and perfectly just-sweet their usual chocolate is. This new range takes that classic chocolate base, then adds a whole bunch of to die for nuts, fruits and other bits and bobs, for an outstanding chocolateering experience! From salted almonds blended into dark truffle maple choc, to crunchy activated buckwheat and juicy cranberries swirled through hazelnut choc, there’s something for everyone here. My favs – Very Buck ‘N Berry, Coffee Kapow, and Nutty Mr Maple. Grab a bundle deal of four bars and you should have enough for everyone's stocking - perhaps with one or two left over for yourself!

Treat your loved ones to Loving Earth here.

Keep Cup

The perfect gift for the eco-warriors and hot-bevvie lovers alike - a reusable coffee cup that keeps your drinks warm on the go, and saves those billions of paper cups going to landfill. So, if you’ve got a latte lover or regular café-frequenter in your life, do them (and our planet) the favour of gifting them one of these sweet stylish cups. Some cafes even give discounts for using cups like these too, so it could be a double whammy! The smalls are great for flat whites and long blacks, while the medium is perfect if your loved one is a matcha/turmeric/chai/soy latte type person. I’ve got the Filter in medium (with the cream lid here), but the Press and Espresso with their dark charcoal and black lids are super sleek. Or go for a dash of colour with their rainbow range here

Grab a Keep Cup for a loved one here - and grab one for yourself too!

Vitamix Blender

My other heavy hitter in the list, this one is for your partner, fiancée, husband, wife… you get me. But, if you can wing it, this is THE mac daddy of all foodie Xmas presents right now. My Vitamix has completely changed my kitchen game, not only speeding it up, but also introducing a whole new world of possibilities to my cooking - creamy cashew sauce? Silky smooth raw tarts? No problem! This is the machine you want to get if you want your raw treats to taste as good (better) than your local raw food café. This is what I use to make things like my Nutella Tart above, my Midnight Black Sesame Tarts, and the creamy sauces in my pastas like this Fettuccine Alfredo. Perfect for creating everything and anything without the need for dairy!!

If you have any specific questions about this foodie gift, please feel free to email me direct, or leave me a comment below – I know it’s a big purchase, so want to make sure you know everything you need to before taking the plunge! (But it’s worth it, trust me!).

Healthy Gingerbread Men

Last but not least, a classic Christmas gift - gingerbread men! These fellows have a healthy twist, so they'll work perfectly for the GF or refined-sugar free people in your family – and great for the kiddies too! You can make and give these delicious cookies to both adults and littlies alike, knowing you’re not filling them with sugar. Perfect if you’ve got a little DIY streak in you, or if you just want to show someone you really care.

Whip up a batch of Gingerbread Men gifts here.

Annmarie's Natural Perfume

I couldn’t quite leave you without sharing one gift that’s not technically food, but would be perfect for the health lover in your life anyway! My absolute favourite natural essential oil perfumes from Annmarie Skin Care. If your loved one is into natural and organic things, they will love love love these perfumes – they smell divine, and are made with only natural, organic, fully wild-crafted ingredients. Most perfumes can contain any one of a thousand odd chemicals, many of which have been associated with hormone disruption. So if you know your loved one is a perfume fan, try her out with a natural alternative!

I personally love the LOVE scent, and wear it every day – think classic rose, sweet jasmine, with hints of frankincense and sandalwood. I also love the CALM in the evening, which combines rosewood and lavender with spruce and frankincense. Delicious. There are other scents here too, so check them out here. If you have a natural beauty addict in your life, they're guaranteed to love the rest of Annmarie's beautiful wild-crafted range too!

Treat yourself or a loved one to LOVE this Christmas here.

That’s it from me for this week! I hope you find some inspiration in the above list of ideas, I’d love to hear if you try one out. They’re all amazing, and as I said, I’d gladly receive any of those in my Xmas stocking.

I can’t wait to spend some calm wind-down time with my family this Xmas, and am sure you’re the same too. It’s been a busy year, and we deserve some time to relax!

Have a beautiful weekend, and til next week, stay happy and well.
